Over 120 leaders came together in Newcastle in February 2023 for the International Symposium on Sustainable Cokemaking and Ironmaking (ISSCI 2023).
Hosted by The University of Newcastle, through the BHP Centre for Sustainable Steelmaking Research (formerly the Centre for Ironmaking Materials Research), the Symposium saw academic and industry experts come together to communicate technological developments in low carbon and sustainable cokemaking and ironmaking, and address opportunities for collaboration. Topics explored included low-carbon ironmaking, direct reduction processes, sustainable steelmaking, raw materials and agglomeration, sustainable cokemaking, and process integration and optimisation.
A huge thank you to our ISSCI 2023 sponsors – The University of Newcastle, the Australian Coal Association Research Program (ACARP), BHP, HATCH, and the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) – who’s support enabled the delivery of such a comprehensive program of learning and networking opportunities.
Abstracts from all speakers have been collated into a comprehensive symposium proceedings document.
